For someone who is already in good shape, like yourself, that large of a deficit could actually slow your metabolism, not to mention the fact that you will be dominated by thoughts of food. <BR/><BR/>The key to success on a diet is sustainability. I did manage to hold at a 1000 calorie/day deficit for a few weeks - without going crazy - when I was losing weight, but for the most part I did 500/day, which is quite sustainable. <BR/><BR/>However, since you are already in good shape, you have an option (assuming family obligations don't interfere) that the out of shape don't have - you can burn it off through exercise.
