30 minutes of garage play.
Ingredients:
25 pound kettlebell
40' AOS rope
Random set of 8 pound weights
Gymboss timer
Did 30s work/15s rest of whatever felt good. Movements included:
Farmer's walks (w/one kettlebell)
One-sided lunges (w/one kettlebell and bodyweight only)
Swings
Cleans
Figure 8 to holds
Pushups
One arm rows
Super long set of fast overhead press, lateral raises, rear delt flyes using 8 pound weights
And lots and lots of rope intervals
I feel quivery and spent!
P.S. I must've blocked out the jumping lunges and squat jumps, but those were part of the fun too!
Fitness for all ages and stages from a girl who's made all the mistakes and talks about them here. Lots of oversharing, which hopefully leads to lots of encouragement and heart connection.

I DO still exercise!
Haven't had much to say about workouts these days. Today was my last day of boxing camp (end of May session) and I'm looking forward to finding a new challenge. Don't know what it will be yet, but I'll be sure to let you know about it when I figure it out.
So this week, workouts have looked like this:
Monday -- boxing camp, swings with clients
Tuesday -- 6 mile run
Wednesday -- boxing camp
Thursday -- boxing camp
I plan to do some longer runs this weekend and maybe the P90X yoga dvd or Art of Strength's Providence kettlebell DVD.
In a few minutes, my boyfriend (actually husband, but boyfriend just sounds and feels like a lot more fun!) will be home from a 5 day golf trip in Oregon. I can't wait!!!

Gassed or whatever you call it
What's the word for when your body goes, "Nope. We're not doing another single thing today!"? Gassed? Smoked? Finito? Well, whatever it is, it's Friday afternoon and I'm there.
I'm needing to reevaluate my goals because while alone they are all fine, when viewed all together as belonging to the same person (me!), they may not work well. Here's the weekly goal list:
boxing camp 5 mornings
run 20 miles
one 1000 kettlebell swing workout
cell regeneration treatment (with 24 hours of rest afterwards)
Today I got up at 5:15 for boxing (today is conditioning, which starts at 6:00 which is why I get to sleep in), and I was TIRED! But once I got going at boxing I was fine. Workout was hard, but they're all hard. Came home, knowing I wanted to run 14 miles today. Got cleaned up. Trained 2 clients. Had a "window" where I could do part of my mileage, so I went out and did a fast-ish 7 (1:02 overall time). Trained another client. Laid down intending to rest for 30 minutes before doing the other 7 miles. Slept through alarm. Woke up really tired. Decided (with sane husband's help) to not run the other 7. Then I thought, "Well, I can do my swing workout!" Got ready. Did 100 swings. And knew that nothing else was happening.
Although it may sound like I'm obsessed with workout out, I'm really not. Nor do I have freaky body image issues (just normal ones like most women!). I just really want to hit all of my goals and it's getting hard to fit it all in.
So the plan for tomorrow is to go out early and run 10. I'll let you know how it goes.

Weekend Update
- Just finished my weekend 1000 swing workout. I felt low energy so I stayed with the 12kg bell, but at the end I did one 7-1/2 minute long set, combining 3 of my 2-1/2 minute (100 swing) sets. It was tough, but doable.
- My kids are really mean to each other and I need to find a way to stay balanced when they're fighting. I think what is most discouraging is that when they're angry, they truly seem to hate each other. And when that's going on, I want to be a part of any family but this one.
- Austin competed in the regional championships in Reno yesterday. He did not have a great meet, but took 5th place in pommel horse among the 30 boys from 4 states in his age group.
- Tucker competed in a Tae Kwon Do tournament today (yes, we're tired!) and took 1st place in weapons and 2nd in his Songham 4 form.
- Tomorrow's workout will be a long run.
- We've canceled our Hawaii vacation. We had airfare with one of the airlines that went out of business. And as of Thursday, 4 tickets to Kauai were going to cost $4500. I think we can have a lot of fun here in California for quite a bit less, don't you? (Assuming I'm willing to do a whole family vacation.) :)
- I'd LOVE to hear some suggestions of fun family vacations in California. All input is appreciated!

Happy 2008
It's day 2 of a bright, shiny new year. Hope things are going well for everyone!
Yesterday I "tested" my two favorite hills to see if a vertical mile is even something I want to try. (Thanks Shelly for informing me of the actual distance in a mile!) For those who are local, I did the "backside" hill 3 times (3 miles, 800 feet ascended, 492 calories). At that rate, I'd need to run backside TWENTY TIMES (20 miles) in order to get my 1 vertical mile.
After doing this, I drove home (yep, I drove to the top of the hill, wanting hill only running), hung out for 45 minutes (did some laundry, got some water, generally procrastinated), and then drove to my other favorite hill -- the one by the golf course. A side note here -- resting 45 minutes, then going out and running hills again -- HARD and not recommended. This hill is done in a loop fashion. I did 5 loops (3.77 miles, 870 feet ascended, 605 calories). At this rate, I'd need to run the loop for 23 miles (about 30 laps) in order to get that mile.
So do I want to do a vertical mile? Probably not. My big 2008 goal is a half-dozen half marathons, and the main reason I want to do this is that I love the 13.1 mile distance. So to embark on something where I have to run 20 or more miles -- the question becomes WHY??? But to be honest, I'm still intrigued by the idea.
I'm still working on 2008 goals. Well, all the work has happened inside my head, and I've always heard it's not a goal unless you write it down. So here, in very preliminary form, are my 2008 goals:
Word for the year: THRIVE. (It was last year's word, but I don't feel like I lived up to it, so I'm taking a do-over!)
Goal #1: 6 half marathons. Actual races, not just training runs.
Goal #2: a workout plan. I want to have an actual plan I follow, not just the "hmmmm, what might I want to do today?" way I usually do it. Note -- plan will be something like this: run 3x, kettlebells 3x, Crossfit 1x per week. Any more specific would sink me, knowing me!
Goal #3: achieve and maintain a weight in the low 130s.
Goal #4: some number of dinners cooked for my family (still workin' on the dinner thing)
Today's plans include a kettlebell workout and training clients. Time to get on with the day!
