The problem with Halloween...

You MUST read this -- Crabby says it better than I ever could.

(But if you don't have time to click the link, here's the excerpt that says it all: "The problem is: we're a culture of infants who think every f*cking day of the year is a holiday.")

Halloween candy update: I DID open the bag last night, intending to have one or two special favorite pieces. But then Tim was working on the iMac (installing Windows so I can run Exercise Explorer again), and I was tired, and guess what will help keep you awake? That's right -- mainlining chocolate! So I woke up feeling hung over and icky. Here's hoping that tonight and tomorrow morning will be better!

Thanks so much Leslie!

And I doubt a little halloween candy (or pre-halloween candy) will do too much damage to an otherwise healthy eater like you. It's those folks who eat huge quantities of crap every day and then pig out for holidays too that I wonder about!

No kidding on the Chocolate. It's the Theobromine, another Methylxanthine. Has similar properties, (particularly addictive), to Caffine.

I agree with the wording in that article, though you do yourself an injustice. I think you could have eloquated the point really well, such is your literary prowess.

I opened a debate on my site, some time back about this, and the thing is, people are too willing to lambats such companies, particularly fast food companies for making people Fat.

1. Parents allow their Fat kids to get like that, Fat kids who don't get given the right advice, or choices from young, will end up Fat, because they're let develop the idea it's okay to eat tonnes of crap.

The other flispide is, people aren't willing to turn round and acknowledge, if someone ate mostly healthy food, exercised, and ate a couple of hamburgers for lunch 2-3 times a week, the fact a modicum of fast food, becomes intestine fodder in that instance, should not be given the same rough justice as a scenario where it's Big Macs all round daily, with a side order of sludge, gunk and processed vomit.

Excuse my French, as they say.

A lot of fast food companies are trying to change their attitude, and provide some better options, and in many cases improve certain options, like adding less salt to food etc etc, which in some peoples eyes, might make the improvement in their corporate attitude, better or more impacting, than the improvement in societies attitude, to obesity related foodstuffs.

End of the day, fast food places get a deserved bad rep, but it's easy to blame them squarely, when nobody forces some people to eat such food in the quantities they do, and too many take the companies attitude as an easy blame option, rather than giving some people in society, the kind of dressing down they need, and in some cases their childrens sake too.

However if the price of it went up about 300%, some people might find it was just as costly, or moreso than buying foodstuffs that mostly eminate from Farms or nature.

Might be an idea for some parents though, to tell their kids yes you can have a Mars Bar, if you then go outside and do 5 minutes of jumping Jacks, to burn off some of the Fat you'll be storing later, from the Bar :-p :-p.

See how much a kid wants it, if it must be worked for.

Hope you're having a great day.

Take care, and best wishes as always.

:-) :-).

Matt

P.S. do please keep having a well voiced point of view. You know how to express yourself really well, and you always know how to make yourself known, without being seen as cranky, or aggressive.

So hold those headline posts for now and again won't you, as anything you say, is well worth every second of my reading time.

Thanks for being you. You are always a positive inspiration, talisman, and all round genuine ray of light :-).

funny: on the other side of the coin, I woke up regretting *not* eating candy! :-) I know eating snickers doesn't equal "joyful," but on the other hand, there's just something fun about mini-candy bars. Next year!

thanks for visiting my blog, btw.
